GUELPH, ON, April 16, 2015 /CNW/ - The Co-operators welcomed two new directors to its board as the Canadian-owned insurance and financial services co-operative wrapped up its Annual General Meeting today in Toronto. Louis-H. Campagna, representing the Quebec Region and Gilles Colbert from the Saskatchewan Region have joined the Board of Directors.
Mr. Campagna, a firefighter instructor in Quebec City, has a long history of involvement in the co-operative sector and, in particular, housing co-ops. This includes serving as the treasurer of the Confédération québécoise des coopératives d'habitation and on the Board of Directors of the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada, a member of The Co-operators.
Mr. Colbert spent the majority of his career serving the credit union system in Saskatchewan. Prior to his retirement, he was the general manager of Unity Credit Union for 16 years, and served in several governance roles, including on the Board of Directors of Co-operators member-owner, SaskCentral.
"We're pleased to welcome the newest members to our Board of Directors, which will benefit from their expertise, passion and commitment to the co-operative business model," said John Harvie, Chairperson of the Board of Directors. "Because our membership represents a wide variety of sectors of the Canadian economy, there are a number of different perspectives among our directors, which is one of our organization's great strengths."
As a co-operative, The Co-operators Group Limited is governed on a democratic basis by its 42 member-owners, which include Canadian co-operatives and credit union centrals. The members appoint representatives to seven regional committees, which nominate members of the 22-member Board of Directors.
