GUELPH, ON, Jan. 11, 2016 /CNW/ - The Co-operators was honoured today to be included on the World's 10 Best Intranets for 2016, a prestigious list by user-experience research firm Nielsen Norman Group. The organization's intranet, Source, was completely rebuilt in order to better connect people and work processes across the group of companies.
The rebuild of the organization's corporate intranet was completed in 17 months, launching in May, 2014. The goal was to provide a common user experience with enhanced functionality that helps the 4,300 Co-operators employees do their jobs better by promoting collaboration and community throughout the group of companies.
"Source is a very important resource that boosts employee engagement and productivity by providing easy access to work tools and corporate information, while also providing a platform for social interaction among employees in every part of the country," said Paul Mlodzik, Vice-President, Marketing and Communications at The Co-operators. "We made every effort to involve our employees in the redesign to ensure that what we offered ultimately met their needs and expectations."
Source is a bilingual resource that includes daily news articles, employee profiles, a poll and key corporate performance indicators. Employees are encouraged to submit and comment on a variety of news articles related to the organization and its business. The site provides links to many of the work tools that employees use on a daily basis.
In making the announcement, Nielsen Norman Group pointed to a number of key emerging intranet trends, which leaders in intranet design have embraced. These include a focus on extensive user research, quality content, multi-language support and more prominent use of photos.
