TORONTO & GUELPH, ON, Feb. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Bullfrog Power®, Canada's leading green energy provider, and The Co-operators are proud to announce a new partnership that will see The Co-operators reduce its environmental impact across Canada as part of its 2011-2014 Sustainability Strategy. The Co-operators is choosing 100 per cent green electricity for the head offices of subsidiaries Co-operators Life Insurance Company in Regina and The Sovereign General in Calgary, as well as six corporate offices in Alberta, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick.
"Cutting carbon emissions across our group of companies by 50 per cent by the end of this year is one piece of our commitment to helping build a more sustainable future," said Kathy Bardswick, president and CEO of The Co-operators. "This investment in renewable energy, which will help us meet that goal, is ultimately an investment in the health and wellbeing of our people and our planet, and affirms our support of renewable energy development in Canada."
Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power's generators will put 100 per cent green electricity onto the electricity grid to match the amount of electricity used in the eight aforementioned Co-operators offices.
"We're proud to be working with The Co-operators, an organization whose history of making communities a better place continues in its commitment to a sustainable future," said Peter Melanson, CEO, Bullfrog Power. "By choosing green electricity with Bullfrog Power, The Co-operators is reducing its environmental impact, supporting new community-based green energy projects across Canada and contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment."
